Well, she is home but l wont say bouncing.
Indeed l dont think she even knows where she is.
When l picked her up, she was awake but not aware. The half hour car ride had me pull over a few times to check she was still breathing.
At home, l put her on my bed and there she has remained. Once or twice she has opened her eyes but she dosen’t know who l am.
She has two lots of stitches, one for the spaying, one for the hernia. And a lot of tablets to take in the next few days.
She would want to come to life over night or she is going back to the vets in the morning. l understand she would be sore but laying there with her eyes rolled back?
Despite the heat, she feels very cold to touch so has a blanket on her.
l dunno. The things we humans do to dogs is shocking.

How on earth l’m supposed to give her tablets ‘with food’ when she hasn’t come to life yet. l did ring the vet a little while ago but they said this reaction is normal and they aren’t worried.

At the doorway. Worried nannies.
*sigh*
she is zonked out to it from the piccs but be reasurred by the vet and just ring them if you are really concerned – I’m sure she is just sleeping it off
Of course that is of little comfort to you – stay calm – all will be well
Some people (and pups) react differently to anaesthetic than others and take different lengths of time to really respond afterwards. Leave the nannies on duty and tryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy and get some sleep
And because you didn’t say and I just HAVE to ask – why is there green stuff sprayed in her ear???
The nannys are not allowed in with her. l did let them thinking they would be gentle but they weren’t. So they got locked out.
The green on her ear is dye from the tattoe they put in the ear. No idea why its all over her but they did mention it when l picked her up.
She is still sleeping, l tried to rouse her with some cooked chicken and rice but no go. l got her to sit up (l helped). She opens her eyes for a second then they half shut, roll backwards and thunk, down she goes back on her side.
Am thinking about calling work in the morning and taking the day off. l dont think l should leave her in the care of anyone else (US visitors) as she dunt like them.
Both op sites are clean and not weepy, so thats summin. She is shaved underneath and on one leg. Looks like a plucked pink chicken!
Jeanie, normally the dogs come around at the vets and then they know all is well. The fact she is still zonked isn’t unusual, but I would expect her to be over it by the morning.
Make sure she doesn’t fall off the bed during the night !
Its 11.30 and l’m ready for bed. She is still out like a light and no hope of her stirring enough to swollow any pills.
l took Kitten Kat in the room to see if a bit of company was wanted but she didn’t stir enough to notice.
CAn only wait and see.
l know she is a bit of a princess when she is hurt and prehaps sleeping is her way of dealing with it.
She seems warm to touch now instead of stone cold. (Normal warm, not heat) and her breathing is normal. l’d feel much better if she would at least drink a bit of water.
Have pillows under the bed edges so she cant (hopefully) roll off.
good morning
cant sleep – too hot here
– hope all went well over night
been thinking about the pills – were they pain killers? she didnt appear to be in pain from what I saw and what you told us last night and if they were antibiotics – it is prob part of a course that was started at the clinic
watch those stitches that she doesnt try and pull them out – might need a flower pot on her head
apart from all that – good luck and I await a report
Morning. *bleary eyed person here*
She slept the night, hardly moved at all.
The tablets say to give her 2 on wed night (no hope, she never awoke enough to blink, muchless eat anything). They are Carpofen – anti-inflammatory tablets.
Just reading the big printed out receipts, the fluid procedure that was extra says: Intravenous fluids given before, during and after surgery to prevent blood pressure from falling’.
And the blood tests – Pathology Idexx Preanaesthetic profile….*blink* The vet did say the blood tests showed no issues with her blood.
The pain killer she was given – l dont think l could type that name….Ovariohohysterectomy…..that she was given during the op lasts around 8 hours from the op.
On the care sheet, it says not to allow her to jump or swim for 7 -10 days….erm…she has to stand up and get off the bed first!
No swelling on the spay wound. The hernia one is a little bit puffy but not weepy or anything. There is a small bit of bruising around it. The vet said the actual hole in the muscle was small but stomach fat had gone through it and filled the little pocket, thats why it looked so big.
*sigh*
So nothing much to report. l’ll ring the vet this morning and update them, they wanted to know how she faired this morning. l’m more worried that l cant get any water into her with this hot weather.
l put Grubby in with her early this morning thinking a gentle mate would be good. Grubby sniffed her all over then sat on her head so that was not a success.
